Roc Dance is a new dance studio in Webster, and offers classes to dancers of all ages and abilities. The owners, dance college graduates Charlotte & Krista believe passionately that the skills learned at their dance studio go far beyond simply learning dance steps! Charlotte originally from the UK, and Krista a native to Rochester have both traveled the world performing. Brought together over a common love for all things dance and performing arts they are not only business partners but best friends.

They may be young, but this dancing duo has big plans to change the stereotypical sequins and sass commonly associated with the world of dance studios! Unlike the majority of dance studios, Roc Dance does not pressure or focus on expensive and time consuming recitals and competitions, instead dedicating its efforts to teaching technique and offering performance opportunities within the community, ‘Performing with a Purpose’ . Fully aware of the influence that they have on their young and impressionable dancers, Charlotte and Krista aim to offer a positive and encouraging environment. In an industry commonly saturated with ‘body shaming’ and hours in front of the mirror, today’s generation is constantly being hit by social conformity and ‘idealism’. Roc Dance is making steps to change that. Instead of focusing on what a dancer should ‘look like’ they are more interested in ‘who’ a dancer is. Punctual, follows directions, works well within a team. driven, hard working, presentable and confident. Developing employable and well rounded adults who love to dance is why Roc Dance is about more than just making beautiful dancers, it’s about making beautiful people. Charlotte & Krista commented ‘We wanted to create a home away from home for our students.

A ‘one stop shop’ for anyone who loves dance! Our studio has a place for every student. Whether your dancer is looking for a fun class to learn the basics, wants to join our competition team to perform or needs guidance with college auditions we’ve got you covered!’

Staying true to their mission to include their students within the community and creating performance opportunities that make a difference Roc Dance is thrilled to partner with Muddy’s Buddies this holiday season. Muddy’s Buddies is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to aiding children and families in need. The charity matches children with high school and college sports teams, clubs and classrooms, or dance studios! The organization offers a ‘buddy’ the opportunity to be a guest of honor at activities and events, and provides an opportunity for organizations to spend time, share friendships and make special memories. Roc Dance is delighted to welcome Giana to the studio as their ‘Buddy’. Giana is nine years old and loves dance. Giana has already been a fan favorite amongst Roc Dance’s students and they are all eager to spend time with Giana outside of the studio too! Giana is diagnosed with spina bifida, but her infectious smile and love for dance inspired Charlotte, Krista and their students to do something special.

On December 9th at Roc Dance students of all ages gathered at Eastview Mall to help spread some Holiday cheer in the form of a good deed scavenger hunt & a festive performance. The Dancers taught dance steps to mall shoppers, sang holiday songs to mall employees, and collected items in the form of good deeds and happy well wishes! Later that afternoon friends, family and busy shoppers stopped to watch a very special little dancer and her new friends! Charlotte commented “we are so thrilled to have had this opportunity along with our dancers and Giana to raise awareness for Muddy’s Buddies, a charity that makes such a difference to young children’s lives.’ Over the past few weeks Gianna attended rehearsals at Roc Dance to practice with her fellow dancers to prepare for her dancing debut, the girls all became fast friends, and it won’t end here!

Alongside the performance, the dancers modelled their festive fundraising t-shirt, designed specifically for the occasion. Roc Dance reached out to local businesses to sponsor the production of the t-shirts, with all the proceeds going to Muddy’s Buddies. Krista commented ‘The support and generous contribution by our local community and business has been overwhelming! Donation’s and well wishes keep flooding in and we are so fortunate to be able to utilize our new business to make a difference in our community.’
