Pam Breedlove was just 15 when her breasts started giving her problems. She was supposed to be worried about grades… her friends… make up. Maybe even obsessing over a first crush.
Yet there she was obsessing over a painful lump in her breast.Continue reading

If you ask people what makes a fulfilling life, you’ll often get a litany of bright and shiny ideas – fortune, popularity, travel, fancy cars, etc. Indeed, these days, we strive to have it all. But what happens when the shine begins to rust? If you ask Greg Polisseni, a man who has everything that most folks would define as markers of success, his parameters for living a fulfilled life are a little different – humble, even:
“It’s getting to be myself every day and do the things I love, surrounded by the people that love me. That’s what it’s all about.”
“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.”
Cheers may have coined this classic — daresay cliche — line, but isn’t it just the truth? No matter where we go, humans as a species long for community. Like a watering hole in the serengeti, community forms around what gives us life. Food, drink, friendship, family — all of these things keep us together, happy, and thriving. Today, there are countless places where one can get a spray tan in Rochester, but this was not always so. A short decade ago, Anne Marie DeSalvo, owner of Glow Sunless Tanning salons, had a vision. Because of her drive, talent, and desire to help other women succeed, this vision has not only become her enterprise, but a means of catapulting the businesses of countless women across the greater Rochester area.
With her heavyweight status as a Rochester female entrepreneur and auto industry titan, it’s hard to imagine her as anything other than a success. But only decades ago, Kitty was selling used cars on a dirt lot in the front of her Victor home rental. With relentless drive and challenges both ahead and behind her, Kitty Van Bortel, a woman of determination, mother and breast cancer survivor, vowed to do whatever it took to be at the top of the car sales business in Rochester and the greater United States.
To speak with her about her job as a News 10-NBC news reporter and anchor was fascinating. With each bat of her eyes, the sparkle shone through someone who is hedonistically content with the place she created for herself as a journalist. Let’s face it, Lynette Adams is a woman who has been reporting live through our televisions for the past 25 years, in the limelight, as a local celebrity. This wasn’t my first time sitting down with Ms. Adams, except the last time she was the interviewer asking me about local parolee issues, so I already knew what I am now sharing with you. This is definitely a woman who cares about our community.
