Beautiful hand made Indonesian Batik is now available in Buffalo, New York at Sasmita Batik Indonesia.
I made my way to Buffalo New York in 2008 by way of Jakarta, Indonesia where I worked as a trader at the Indonesian Stock Exchange. I noticed immediately how friendly people were and right away I realized Buffalo truly is the city of good neighbors. After spending more time in the city, I saw an opportunity in the local market to offer a fine selection of hand made Indonesian Batik, an artform and type of style I’ve long been familiar with.
After selling retail merchandise alongside other vendors for over a year, I made a bold decision to set up operations at the Market Arcade and opened Sasmita Batik during the 2011 holiday season . That bold decision soon proved to be the right one and Samsita has become a staple in the downtown Buffalo community. You can find Sasmita Batik at it’s new home at 610 Main Street in Buffalo’s theater district.
Sasmita Batik, goes to New York Fashion Week
Fall 2019, 11 years after moving to Buffalo, Novi Paluch is at the top of her game. Sasmita Batik Indonesia was invited to showcase her designs in New York Fashion Week, one of the most prestigious fashion shows in the country. Sasmita Batik Indonesia showcased her designs along side iconic designers like Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Christian Siriano and Nicole Miller to name a few.
NY Fashion week organizers were searching for international clothing designers and came across Sasmita Batik Indonesia. They reached out to Paluch and she submitted her portfolio. Three months later, she received news that she will be showing at NY Fashion Week.
Paluch chose to showcase her “Jumputan Kawung Batik” collection. The red color symbolizes universal energy and the sacred origin of life. Paluch stated the collection empowers oneself with energy and passion.
